A stalwart of business in the deep south, the Richardson name has become synonymous with the idea of big wheels and big ideas.
Despite beginning a joinery apprenticeship as a young man, Bill gave it up to continue his family’s legacy in building and transport business, forming and growing today’s HW Richardson Group to be the biggest privately owned transport company in the country.
His interest in trucking was not only business motivated, however, with Bill having a passion for trucks of all shapes and sizes.
Soon he was not only known for his business successes but for his expansive collection of vintage vehicles.
Now, Invercargill is home to Bill Richardson Transport World, where Bill’s collection is proudly on display, thanks to the care and vision of his family.
He was inducted to the NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame in 2012, seven years after his death at age 64.
