SFM is a non-profit, incorporated society that began in 2006 with a committee that had representatives from Venture Southland, food industry leaders, stall holders and those interested in supporting locally sourced food.

The Southern Farmers Market is committed to the following operational goals:

  1. To provide local growers and producers with a suitable venue to market their product

  2. To promote the sale of locally grown and processed food and artisan products

  3. To improve the availability, variety, quality and freshness of food available in Invercargill

  4. To provide consumers with a direct relationship with the grower or producer

  5. To educate local consumers of the benefits of locally grown and produced food, economically, environmentally and personally.

  6. To be an incubator and support for local enterprise

  7. To help build a more resilient, vibrant and tolerant Invercargill community through a market environment.
